Food is the most controllable migraine trigger. Doing the detective work to identify food triggers and safe foods is critically important to getting your life back in your control. The mediator release test (MRT®) is a blood test that identifies YOUR specific food sensitivities. The information from the data can then be used to shape a more effective elimination diet that gets results faster.
Who Should Take the MRT®?
- People who do not have the patience to work through a longer migraine-oriented elimination diet based on common migraine triggers
- Those with migraines in addition to other common co-occurring conditions like IBS, IBD, eczema, psoriasis, autoimmune conditions, heartburn/reflux, fibromyalgia and acne.
- People who have benefited from elimination diets and think they could find a greater degree of relief with more detective work.
What Is the MRT® and How Does It Work?
It is a blood test that quantifies the inflammatory response to 150 different foods & food-chemicals. MRT® testing is offered only through Registered Dietitian Nutritionists who have completed extensive training and passed a certificate course.
What Happens After My Test Results Are In?
Your test results will tell you how reactive your blood sample was to the 150 foods and foodchemicals that were tested. The next steps are critically important. You will be guided through the Lifestyle, Eating and Performance Protocol (LEAP) and get step by step guidance on implementing a short, personalized elimination diet based specifically on your test results and our experience with supporting people with migraines through the process.
How Will the MRT® Program Work for Me?
We have the MRT® kit sent to you and tell you where to go for the blood draw. A 60-90 minute appointment is set for about 10 days after the test to begin the LEAP protocol. You and the migraine relief coaches discuss the results, determine your unique plan and help you prepare and shop. The next 3 follow-up sessions (60 minutes for each session) are scheduled for 3 consecutive weeks. The focus of these calls is noting your progress, adding more foods into your plan and supporting you with proven ways of reducing migraine frequency and intensity.
The fifth and sixth sessions (60 minutes for each session) are planned for 6 and 8 weeks after the first session. At this point you will have successfully added back many or all of your non-reactive foods and will be feeling noticeably better. We discuss specific plans for continuing to add a variety of foods in beyond the LEAP protocol. The migraine relief coaches will also spend time discussing specific actions you can take to continue to feel better and get more control of your condition and your life in addition to the diet changes.
Throughout the LEAP protocol, you will have access to our exclusive app that will allow you to send pictures of foods and labels so you get answers to questions that often come up. You can also send selfies to celebrate successes and get feedback. This app is an excellent way to keep on track, motivated and ensure your success in finding relief.
